Vizag Metro gets Cabinet Nod :-
As the State Cabinet approved the detailed project report pertaining to the Vizag Metro rail project, the project has finally gained momentum and took the biggest step forward. Earlier, there were concerns among Vizagites that the Metro project may not be in the reckoning of the government as it has been going at a brisk pace with the Vijayawada Metro. According to sources, it would take at least another 3 – 4 months for the DPR to get the Union urban development ministry‘s nod and form a special purpose vehicle to entrust the responsibility of Vizag Metro works. The Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC) prepared two separate DPRs for the project.
Preparation of the second DPR had also delayed the process as one of the corridors had been extended to Gajuwaka. The Cabinet agreed to go ahead with the second DPR, which also covers Gajuwaka. The 42.5 km long Metro project would consist of three corriodors – Madhurawada to Gaiuwaka along NH-16. Thatichetlapalem to Old City via Vizag railway station and Gurudwara Junction to Beach Road. After forming the special purpose vehicle, the state government has to go ahead with land acquisition and call for tenders of the construction works. The project works, which will be started in the early 2016, are expected to be completed by 2020.
