Vizag Disappointed Over Railway Budget :-
North Andhra erupted in rage over the raw deal meted out to it in the Railway Budget, tabled in the Parliament on Thursday. The long standing demand for a separate railway zone at Visakhapatnam went unheeded. Dharnas and protests were held at various parts of Vizag following no word on railway zone in the Budget. The separate railway zone was a promise doled out during the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. After receiving requisitions from various people’s representatives of the region for new services, the Waltair railway officials had forwarded the same for the consideration of the Railway Ministry.
These include the introduction of Visakhapatnam-Varanasi, Visakhapatnam-Chennai and Visakhapatnam-Bangalore daily trains and converting the trio weekly Visakhapatnam-Secunderabad Duronto express to a daily train. The Railway Budget 2015 had awarded Rs.659 crore for various developmental works of Waltair Division. But many projects have not made any tangible progress. Projects such as a wagon overhauling work-shop at Vadlapudi and the augmentation of the diesel loco shed at Visakhapatnam to house 100 HHP locomotives remained on paper. Left parties staged protests at the railway station and the agitators raised slogans against the BJP government.
I have never witnessed such a pathetic railway budget in my political career. It has done severe injustice to Andhra Pradesh. There are no announcements on new trains, projects, train extensions, allocations in the budget. There is no clarity at all in the budget. It is highly disappointing that there was no announcement on separate railway zone for AP with Vizag as headquarters, not even an indication of it.
– T.Subbarami Reddy – Rajya Sabha Member
The announcement to eliminate all unmanned level crossing on the broad gauge network with aim on zero accident regime is quite appreciable. However, all were eagerly expecting announcement of railway zone headquartered at visakhapatnam and new trains. Such announcements are not in the budget and it leads to dissatisfaction.
– Ganta Srinivas Rao – HRD Minister
Both TD and BJP leaders deceived Vizagites by claiming that railway minister Suresh Prabhu will announce new railway zone, with Vizag as headquarters. It has been a long-pending demand. TD led-state government seems to have compromised with the government.
– J.V.Satyanarayana Murthy – Visakha Rly Zone Sadhana Samiti Convernor
