VIMS is Operational :-
After years of delay, the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) has started Outpatient (OP) and Emergency Services on Monday with minimal staff after Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the newly constructed VIMS at Hanumanthawaka area in the presence of other ministers. Though VIMS was built on 110 acres on the side of NH-16 stretch over 99 acres around four years ago with crores of rupees, it is mired in controversy and non-operational for patients.
Inaugurating the VIMS, Mr Naidu said that they would develop VIPS on the lines of All India Institute of Medial Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi and VIMS will soon have all the facilities that would benefit the people of north coastal Andhra and neighbouring Odisha and Chhattisgarh who have been depending on King George Hospital and other corporate hospitals in the city. Mr.Naidu said that the government will develop VIMS as per the global standards and 35 corporate hospitals are coming up in the health city of Vizag and of them 10 would be opening shortly. The government has been asking the management of remaining hospitals to speed up work.
The land allotment would be cancelled if the hospitals fail to open on scheduled time, he said. The CM along with other ministers also visited the in-patient wards. The officer on special duty, VIMS, Dr P.V.Sudhakar explained the services provided to the patients and the immediate requirements. The CM assured Mr Sudhakar that equipment worth Rs.9 crore would be sent by AP Medical Services Infrastructure Development Corporation. Vizag MP k.Haribabu said that he would Sanction two ambulances with his MPLAD funds.
