New Terminal Commences Operations :-
The West Quay (WQ) 6 berth of the inner harbour, of Vizag port which was developed on PPP mode at a cost of Rs.225 crore has commenced its commercial operations. The facility offers a berth length of 255 metres and draft of 14.1 metres to bandle fully laden panamax vessels. “First vessel, MT Maithili, reached the berth, carrying the consignment of, 10,000mts of large diameter steel pipes. The state of the art facility, has been developed by West Quay Multiport Pvt Ltd, which is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of Mumbai based, ALBA Asia Pvt ltd.
French shipping major Louis Dreyfus Armateurs and Starport Logistics of Mumbai are the promoters of these ventures. Whilst the over-all volumes are declining at Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT), it is heartening to see new facilities, which will attract new business of VPT.” said, Alba Asia Pvt Ltd, CEEO, Gurpreet Singh Malhi. “The WQ 6 is amongst the modern and efficient multi purpose cargo handling facilities in the country today, it is equipped with 2xlevel luffing cranes, each 6omt capacity at full 36 metre outreach, which make them the largest level luffing cranes to be deployed in India.” he said.
