IFR Makes GVMC Signage Project a Reality :-
Visitors would not find it confusing to find a location in the city, as new directional signboards have come up on all the major roads and at prime locations, all provided at an expenditure of 2 crore. Thanks to the International Fleet Review to make it happen as the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation had been trying to materialise it for the last two years. In a bid to make Vizag visitor-friendly, the GVMC has put up about 120 new signboards displaying the nearby locations with their distance. The details have been given both in English and Telugu for the convenience of all. Some new popular junctions have also made their entries to the display board now like the junction at Novotel Hotel, it is frequented by tourists and delegates but it had no recognition as a junction.
The Jagadamba Centre has got more number of signages, out of the 45 prime locations, being the crowded place and leading to more routes. The Swachh Bharat mission also got a boost through the sign boards as all of them carry a message to keep the city clean, with the symbol of the campaign. Earlier, the civic body had planned to take up the signage project under public-private partnership mode and had issued Expression of Interest (EoI) notification inviting interested parties to apply by Jan.6. 2014, but to no avail. When asked about dropping of PPP mode plan for the project. GVMC superintendent engineer V. Chandraiah replied. “The signboards would have been filled with the names and logos of the private sponsors had they done it under PPP mode. It would have looked ugly too. So, we dropped the plan at the last moment and did it on our own.”
