All arrangements have been made for the annual ‘Giri Pradakshina’, a 35-km devotional walk around the Simhachalam temple before the darshan of Lord Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, which will be kicked off on July 30. A high-level meeting held at Simhachalam reviewed the arrangements made for the annual event. Temple executive officer K. Ramachandra Mohan spoke to the top officials involved in overseeing the arrangements. Mr Ramachandra Mohan said, “The chariot of the god decorated with flowers will be formally inaugurated by the hereditary trustee Pusapati Anand Gajapati Raju and HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao on July 30”.
“On July 30, we will allow devotees to have darshan till 11 pm and again, on July 31, it will begin from 5 am. All the wine shops and belt shops will remain closed within this region on both July 30 and 31” said DCP Ramgopal Naik. Spanning a stretch of nearly 35 km, the Girl Pradakshina starts at the foothills of Simhachalam, via Adavivaram, Arllova, Jail Road, Hanumanthavaka, Madhavadhara, NAD junction and back to Simhachalam temple.
One can go on for Giri Pradakshina on any normal day But the devotees believe that they gain religious merit by walking around the temple on the auspicious Guru Poornima which they call Giri Poornima. In both 2013 and 2014, the temple registered about 2 lakh footfalls on the occasion of Giri Pradakishna and officials are expecting that the number may go up even further this year. Some traffic restrictions have been imposed in Simhachalam and surrounding areas on July 31.
