Centre Gives NOD to Rail Works :-
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had given its approval for doubling of Kothavalasa – Koraput railway line of 189.28 km with an estimated cost of Rs.2977.64 crore. It is expected that the doubling of this line will greatly ease the ever increasing freight traffic between these sections and thereby increase the revenue for Railways. The project will likely to be completed in the next seven years.
Koraput district of Odisha, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts of Andhra Pradesh will be benefited through this project. The doubling is necessitated in view of the demand of increasing goods traffic due to a rise in production of goods and minerals in the vast catchment and subsequent transportation requirement, said a senior railway official. “This would also give a fillip to all the industries like Vizag Steel and other industries in the city which mostly use this line for iron ore,” he added.
