70000 in Vizag to Lose LPG Subsidy :-
At least 70,000 LPG consumers in Vizag will lose their LPG subsidy in the coming days following the petroleum ministry’s announcement that the financial aid will not be offered if a user’s annual income is more than Rs.10 Lakh. At present, a cooking gas cylinder costs around Rs.640/- but under the new central scheme, a consumer can avail of 12 cylinders a year at a subsidized cost of Rs.430 each. But once the new norms are put in place, the subsidy will not be applicable for the 70,000 consumers.
Sources said that there are around 9 lakh residents in Vizag district who use LPG and majority of the consumers avail LPG cylinders from Indian Oil Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum. An officer with the civil supplies department said that they have not yet been able to find out the exact number of consumers who will lose the subsidy as they are yet to get any data from the income-tax department that show the total tax assesses in the district.
